We throw out our direct mail (junk mail), we hang up No Soliciting signs (Girl Scouts only please), promotional emails go to our junk folders (SPAM!), we fast forward through commercials (thank you DVR and Netflix) and if we don't recognize the number - we don't answer (thank goodness for voicemail).
We avoid sales offers like they're deadly and contagious. The used car salesman persona? Yeah, we know, we hate it, and we'd rather do anything than listen to a sales pitch.
The hard sell is dead. Always be closing is now Always Be Connecting.
Gone are the days when the only social opportunities on the Internet where to be had in forums and chatrooms. The advance of technology is not only fun, it affords us the opportunity to reach people in ways we hadn’t even imagined a decade prior.
How many of you hide behind your online content? Does your digital marketing resemble a reception desk, all access blocked until the proper channels have been followed? Or is it a more open experience where your audience feels connected to you and your brand?
Humans are multi-faceted. Often, I have been tempted to take the results of the many personality tests I’ve taken over the years and combine them somehow to get an overall picture of ‘me.’ I’m willing to bet, though, that even with all that information there would still be aspects of my personality that aren’t covered.
